4200 Block of West Vernal Pike, Ellettsville Fire Dept., Blooomington Hospital Ambulance Service, and Monroe Co. Sheriff Dept. responded to the scene. One human fatality found inside the residence. Reader Kyle Landgrebe submitted the photo.
A man’s body was found on the floor of a bedroom of a home on West Vernal Pike Sunday night by Ellettsville firefighters who extinguished a blaze at the one-story frame residence.
Ellettsville fire chief Jim Davis said a fire at 4230 W. Vernal Pike was reported at 8:32 p.m. Sunday, and the first fire units arrived within three minutes to find flames shooting through the bedroom windows.
The fire was knocked down in less than 10-15 minutes, according to Davis, who said the man was found dead on the floor of the bedroom during a search of the home. Identification of the man was being handled by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office, according to Davis.
Davis said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but he said the fire appeared to start in the vicinity of the bed in the room where the man was found. The IndianaFire Marshal’s office was notified. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office also had units at the scene, Davis said.
Excerpt from hour-long program inspired by Studs Terkel's best-selling book, Working. In the book, people talk about what they do all day and how they feel about it. The documentary explores what it is actually like to be on the job with some of these people.
The opening of the piece declares, "As experimental video journalists, we hope to demonstrate that new small-format television equipment allows people to speak for themselves, simply and directly and that real people in real situations make good television."
This excerpt features parking lot attendant Wheelin' Lovin Al Pommier.
Jeremy is a leet gamer, but he still lives in his mom’s basement. His n00b brother Kyle, an aspiring filmmaker, documents Jeremy’s life as he is forced to get off his ass and get a "real" job.
The beginning of the episode is a Call of Duty 2 skit, featuring FPS Doug and Jeremy playing as soldiers. They make a reference to Pulp Fiction; Doug says "[m]an, I hope you don't have a watch in your ass". Also, the skit bears a resemblance to the ending of Red vs Blue Episode 8. After the skit, Kyle decides to do an episode solely centering around Dave, because of his online popularity. The next scene involves FPS Doug receiving a new weapon from a friend of Teh_Masterer, and it parodies several scenes from the film Taxi Driver. Back to Jeremy and Dave, they encounter Anastasia, who is on a date with a guy who is a jock, which aggravates Jeremy. After a heated exchange, Jeremy storms off, clearly very angry.
After a while, the trio are confronted by a crowd of unknown micro warriors, who attack them. During the middle of the battle, the action cuts off to an important flashback of Dave's past in China, revealing his gaming history. Suddenly he breaks, and comes to the rescue, helping to drive away the attackers. Jeremy and Kyle immediately consult Teh_Masterer, who orders Jeremy to find more pro-gamers. Upon arriving home, Jeremy finds a sad note left by Dawei on the table, indicating his apologies and exit from the show.
Johnson talks about his life and history and also about his views on race, politics, and survival. Johnson was taped again a few years later with updates on his situation and commenting on the impact being on television has had on his life. Some of the original footage was used in a program called None of the Above, which investigated Americas non-voters.
It chronicles a gathering of his followers at Houston's Astrodome, as well as some of the beliefs and practices of his zealous supporters. This excerpt features Rennie Davis and Abbie Hoffman. Clips of Davis in his more radicals days are contrasted with his current New Agey-support of the Guru. Hoffman is quite critical of Davis and the other followers: "Rennie is arrogant about the future... There's a difference between saying youve found god, and that you know his address."... "If this guy IS God, hes the God America deserves!"

This week on Saturday Morning Cartoons I would like to share one of my all time childhood favorite cartoons known here in the States as Speed Racer. Way before Speed Racer became a blockbuster movie, it was a simple 60s-style Japanese cartoon. The original Speed Racer was a TV anime series called Mach GoGoGo, aired on Fuji TV—one of Japan's major television networks—in 1967 and 1968. Like many other sources of entertainment in Japan at the time, Go's determination and the superior technology of Mach 5 were symbolic of the country's rapid post-war recovery and the determination that drove it. All that being said, the show was nothing less than monumental to me as a child. Up until Speed Racer came along we television children had to make due with the simple antics of "Looney Tunes" and "Hanna Barbara". Then Speed came screeching onto the t.v. screen and everything changed. Speed Racer was my initiation into the world of Japanimation, and would continue to influence my artistic style for most of my life. Oh there have been other, some might even say "better", Japanimation and Anime out there but for me, Speed Racer was the first. Let me take you back in time and show you a glimpse of the original.
Speed Racer is an English adaptation name of the Japanese manga and anime, Mach Go Go Go which centered on automobile racing. From 1967 to 1968 it ran as a television series in the United States, with 52 episodes. Selected chapters of the manga were released by NOW Comics in the 1990s under the title Speed Racer Classics, later released by the DC Comics division, Wildstorm Productions under the title Speed Racer: The Original Manga. In 2008, under the name of its Americanized title, Speed Racer, Mach GoGoGo, in its entirety, was re-published in the United States by Digital Manga Publishing and was released as a box set, used to commemorate the franchise's 40th anniversary and also served as a tie-in to coincide with the 2008 film. It was published under the title Speed Racer: Mach Go Go Go as part of the company's DMP Platinum imprint. The actual television series itself is an early example of an anime becoming a successful franchise in the United States, which spawned multiple spinoff versions, in both print and broadcast media.
Excerpt includes: It's Television, Dee Davis, Don Cherry, Today Show, Selling Gold, Cutaways.
1) "It's Television" by TVTV. A spoof of early TV in the U.S. in the early 1950s. A middle class family gets their first TV and the whole neighborhood comes to watch. Sit back and light up a Camel.
2) Dee Davis commentary by Appalshop. Davis comments on TV: The problem with television is that programming is developed to sell things. TV should change peoples lives, should offer new enthusiasm, should make the lame walk and the blind see.
3) "Don Cherry" by Starr Sutherland. A musician at the Victoria Theater in San Francisco plays a 3 in 1 instrument: a kazoo, a Jews harp and a clicker.
5) "Selling Gold" by Skip Blumberg. On Chambers and Broadway in New York City, a street vendor sells gold jewelry.
6) "Cutaways" by R.D. Rosen. A comedic piece in which Rosen demonstrates how to shoot cutaways, a TV production trick to cover jump cuts in an interview. The camera records the interviewer pretending to listen intently, looking doubtful, mildly astonished, etc. He also shows us the wrong way to appear in the cutaways: nodding off to sleep, flossing your teeth, etc.
